A small place to pause, and hear yourself again

In a big city where everyone feels tired, Hing Hoi (หิ่งห้อย, firefly) is an attempt to help a person come back to themselves for a moment.

It takes its cue from the Thai household altar, but it is tied to no religion or belief — instead it draws on nature to make space for calm in urban life.

Hing Hoi is a small, portable base holding a few natural objects. It borrows the structure of a Thai household altar, takes the religion out, and shrinks it to fit a small Bangkok apartment.

What is being explored

Five senses, intentionally balanced

These are candidates for supplier research and prototype testing, not confirmed contents of a first set.

Sight

Affirmation and landscape cards on handmade organic paper, exploring pressed botanicals.

Touch

Hand-selected natural gemstones, and a rice-and-herb heat pouch.

Sound

A QR card opening a curated playlist, or a soundscape from field recordings of Thai forests.

Smell

A small pouch of Thai dried herbs, to give the air around you something natural.

Taste

Tea chosen to suit the day, for warming up or cooling down.

Smell and taste require verified, compliant partners and legal, safety, shelf-life, allergen and labelling checks before they reach a prototype.

A Bangkok-based creative working at the intersection of media, data and human connection. Hing Hoi grew from Aiai's personal hope to make nature more present in ordinary urban life.

Developed within a 2026 mentorship programme

SOHO House Bangkok × OWN Academy

Hing Hoi is being developed within their joint mentorship programme. Aiai remains the owner of the project and its creative direction.

What shaped the project — and what remains open

The lesson from Aiai's earlier NIMBY installation in 2024 was that an experience should be self-guided, reusable and simple enough to explain itself. The final form, contents, price and timing remain undecided. Aiai is listening before choosing what comes next.
